Gairloch Gardens

Originally two separate entities, Centennial Gallery and Gairloch Gallery were amalgamated on 27 June 1980 to form Oakville Galleries, each bringing its own distinct history. The current mandate was implemented in 1991, following a complete review of the Galleries's mission and policies. Oakville Galleries is a not-for-profit charitable public art gallery governed by an autonomous Board of Directors. The Board of Directors establishes policies that provide directions for the staff and the many committees of the Board. This year, Oakville Galleries is preparing a strategic plan that will allow it to set and define the priorities for the future. The priorities to explore are: to sustain all activities in the area of research, exhibitions, publications and permanent collection development; to continue developing the public programme sector; and to plan the development of a facility that includes museum standard storage and exhibition area for the permanent collection.
Oakville Galleries is committed to the presentation of contemporary art in all aspects of its programming – exhibitions, education and acquisitions for the permanent collection. The Galleries's educational goals include a commitment to providing an effective means by which each visitor is offered supportive guidance in approaching contemporary art and its incumbent issues, while still nurturing each visitor's individual experience of the work on view.

Situated within larger public environments, the physical settings of both Gairloch and Centennial sites contribute to the growth and development of new audiences. Together, the park and the heritage house present a unique environment for realizing artworks that respond to the particular qualities of the architecture and the location. Programming at Centennial Square, located within the public library building, attracts a broad cross-section of the community, with over 70 per cent of Oakville's residents using the library facilities on a regular basis.

Recognizing the importance of its relationship to the community, Oakville Galleries continually assesses the nature of its programmes. In questioning the role of a public art gallery in given communities, every effort is made to define new directions and goals in the complex social situations of present-day urban art institutions. The result is a programme that brings together issues from different perspectives, i.e. exhibitions, lectures, activities directed towards targeted publics, publications, interactive Web projects and artist/curator/writer residencies. Exhibitions are the principal way through which Oakville Galleries contributes to the community. Most recently, Oakville Galleries has routinely programmed exhibitions with an opportunity to experience and compare the ways in which contemporary artists approach issues that are relevant to our varied publics. Oakville Galleries is able to forge outreach and crucial links with specific communities.

Oakville Galleries extends the access to its programmes by offering free admission to all.

Programmes:
Art Camps for ages 6-12 in English
This programmes are designed for kids to discover and experiments with a variety of art technologies.These activities are inspired by the summer exhibitions and by the unique site of Gairloch Gardens on the shoreof Lake Ontario.The programmes offer a balance between indoor and outdoor art making and recreational activities.

Contemporary art
Traditonal methods and media are explored
Groups Limited to 15 children and are supervised by two instructors.

Week-long programmes of indoor & outdoor art making and recreationals

Camps run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Optional Child care is available from 8:00 am to 9:00 am

Cost $200.00/week($170.00 for friends of Oakville Galleries)

Cost $160.00 for 4-day week due to holidays($136.00 for friends of Oakville Gallerries)

French Classes and Art in the Park for ages 8-11 years old.
Alliance Francaise de Toronto and Oakville Galleries combine their expertise in teaching french as a second language and in delivering high quality art programmes to provide children with a series of multidiciplinary and hands-on learning activities "en francais".

Week-long programmes of indoor & outdoor art making and French language learning

Camps run from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm

Optional child care is available from 8:00 am to 9:00 am
($4/day and 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm $6.00/day)

Cost is $300.00/week($278.50 for friends Oakville Galleries)

School Programmes:
Building on a strong base of existing activities and community relationships, Oakville Galleries’s school programmes challenge the traditional paradigm of museum education and invite youngsters to come together in a dialogue about contemporary culture. Our staff is guided by a vision that creative work is a vehicle for knowledge and understanding and a stimulus for lifelong learning. Through the school programmes, students are provided with an in-depth learning experience in which they can develop important lifeskills: the ability to work individually and with others, to develop technical skills, to think critically and to communicate effectively.

This is a beautiful exclusive galleries I had ever seen.My daughter and I attended her school field trip,and they provided Teachers from Alliance Francaise CANADA TORONTO for full day French speaking people on-site.They have so many interesting exhibits(showcase)and they combine indoor & outdoor activities,In Oakville Galleries is in Gairloch Park,and surrounded with beautiful plants,flowers,and private houses,and right at the lakeshore road.It is a lovely place to spend time with your loveones.But you have to drive or take the Go train to get to this place.

I recommend this place.
