Similar to "Waldo"s experience of the Madison, I was also met with the staff's cold demeanor almost immediately.

While my initial impression of the cleanliness (or should I say the strewn human excrement and the over flowing garbages in the washroom) was less than favorable, what followed shortly after left a much worse taste in my mouth.

After spending one sober hour in the bar (sober because I was driving) I was confronted by a bouncer and humiliated in front of my friends and told not to drink anymore or I would be thrown out.

I was shocked and speechless. Of course I approached him a few minutes later and asked to speak with the manager to resolve the issue. At this point the bouncer replied "If you talk to him, he'll throw you out just for wasting his time".

It's pretty clear that the management is aware that they are a popular location, and respecting their patrons isn't necessary in getting their money.

I recommend heading a little further west on Bloor St. and checking out some of the many other excellent bars/clubs in the area.

I do not recommend this place.

Pros: Lots of capacity, lots of patio, priced fair at $8-15/plate, exceptional steak special ($12.99) with cheesed fried sliced potatoes, seasoned asparagus/tomato/sundried tomato veggie, etc. Good, thoughtful service.

Cons: Nothing noticeable.

I recommend this place.

The waitress very sensibly talked me into the steak special which was outstanding. It came with potato skins, crab cakes and an asparagus with sundried tomato salad, this dish was supereb. Zenon ordered his steak medium rare and I ordered medium, and they were cooked exactly to perfection.
I recommend this place.

All of Madison's TV's are wide screen TVs. But they don't have widescreen
Tv tuners - so instead stretch a regular width TV "picture" to fill the wide screen. The end result - basketball is shaped like a football and players are as tall as they are wide (5 feet by 5 feet!). Duhhhh! If you ask the staff to correct the picture back to it's real dimensions - they scowl at you! And then give the "no one else complains". Duhh!

I do not recommend this place.

3 out of 4 people found this review helpful. Packed to the brim on weekends. The crowd is varied - people from their early 20s to 30s and 40s can all be found. Maddy's is a massive house that has been converted into an even bigger bar. There are 3 or 4 levels including patios. Multiple bars are located throughout the establishment and all can get busy. The service is pretty good but expect to pay a premium price for the atmosphere. Casual but attractive attire is recommended.
I recommend this place.
