Went in for an oil change on my 2006 Mazda 3 GT. The oil change much longer than normal as the technician could not locate the filter. When I got home I noticed oil covered my garage floor. By that time the garage had already closed and I had to go to a dinner engagement. As the car was completely drained of oil and thus inoperable, I called a cab since my other car was in the shop. A return cab ride was $78. I called Carlaw Tire and Auto on Monday morning and spoke to Al, apparently the manager. I explained the problem to him and also explained that I needed to use a taxi to get to an appoitment. He agreed that the problem was his and booked a tow truck to pick up the car on Wednesday. He also indicated that he would cover the cost of my taxi. He called on Wednesday morning indicating that the car was ready to be picked up and that the problem was a faulty gasget on the filter. My wife went to pick up the car but Al wasn't available to speak to her. When my wife asked the counter person (female) about the taxi receipts, she told my wife that she didn't know anything about our arrangement but asked my wife why we didn't use our second vehicle. My wife explained that the Jeep was in the shop at Toronto Chrysler and offered to call them for verification. The couter person told my wife that I would need to talk to Al. When I called Al, he told me that $78 was excessive and he already covered the tow. He explained that since the problem wasn't his fault, he was declining to pay for the taxi. What if my engine was damaged? What if I would have had to rent a car? Aren't these businesses responsible for problem parts? Surely they could have claimed from the filter manufacturer.
