Description

ADULT SOCCER
CO-ED and WOMEN

WHAT IS A HOUSE LEAGUE
A house league for children and adults means that everyone who registers plays; you do not make the team.
In a house league the players are split up into teams based on who they want to play with, their sex, age,
which parent has volunteered to coach and team age distribution in an attempt to keep teams even. There
is no guarantee that the teams will be equal nor that players desire to play with particular players can
be accomodated.

A house league depends on parents who volunteer to coach youth teams. The club cannot guarantee that
every team will have a coach as we depend on those volunteers. In those rare instances where there is
not a coach, it is important that the parents pull together to make the team work so that their
children will have an enjoyable time.

Some people are disappointed in what they find in a house league. In our soccer club (1) there are no rules
concerning attendance. (2) Our league runs continuously from mid May to the 3rd week in August. Some teams
will default games. Those people who expect the same level of committment as their own will be disappointed.
There are soccer clubs adjacent to us which operate a season in May - June which might be more appropriate for
them. We do expect there to be a game iregardless as to how many players have turned up. (3) some teams will be
weak. By the time this is discovered it is usually too late to make changes in the teams without disturbing other
children. (4) training is based on volunteers, some of whom have never played soccer. Those who desire a high
level of training are encouraged not to register in the house league but to try out for a competitive team or
enter a soccer academy training program.

The Club's responsibility is to receive registrations, order uniforms, arrange teams, make schedules, organize referees and perform all the necessary paperwork to ensure that the clubs runs smoothly.

Unlike the adult league, children need a hand in organizing their teams. Call it whatever you want: coaching, arranging, facilitating. The Club assumes that the parents will take on this responsibility. That is why in the Registration Form, it is noted that parents are essential in the running of the Club.

The parent coach is expected to take charge when they are at the game; should that coach not be there, for whatever reason, the other parents should fill in.

The Club is not an extension of the City's Parks & Recreation; nor is it an elite Club, where parents sign up their children to learn. What the children learn is done through play.

A great many parents in our area never played soccer as children. They do not necessarily understand the rules; and are unsure as to how to show the skills. These difficulties can be overcome with study and persistence. However, it is not a prerequisite that the parents learn these things in order for them to sign up their children or to coach a team.

There are many reasons to keep the parent coach- it is a way we can ensure that the running of the teams is in accord with community values; it avoids the liability associated with non parental control; it maintains a spirit of equality and not elitism. The problems of the parent coach are that the person does not necessarily know the game nor how to teach the skills to others. For those parents looking for that teaching, there are many excellent soccer academies around Toronto to look for.

Each year is a struggle to get enough willing and able parents to coach. The rewards far exceed the work involved; the understandings and sense of contribution are well known to people who volunteer. Not everyone is in a position to be a coach. Whatever role you can provide is appreciated.

SEVERAL OF THE RULES OF THE GAME WE APPLY
1. The referee is the person entrusted by the club to apply the rules of thegame. The referee's decisions must be followed by all participants and spectators. If there are problems that anyone has with the refereeing, those problems should be related to the club after the game.

2. Under no conditions should parents come onto the field of play; should their child appear to be hurt the referee should stop the game immediately and the coach on the field should assist the child off the field. If the referee does not notice the child hurt the coach on the field should bring it to the referee's attention. The game is restarted with a drop ball at the spot where the ball was when the game was stopped.

3. In the mini soccer game there are no off sides. In all other games, off sides are called. An offside occurs when the ball carrier passes the ball to one of their teamates who is in an offside position. An offside position occurs when the player has less than 2 players of the other team between the player and the opposition goal. A player cannot be in an offside position in their own half of the field.

4. A ball is in play until it has completely crossed the line.

5. A mini soccer game needs 5 or more players; all other games need 7 or more players. For fairness, when a team does not have the same number of players as the other team, we allow up to a 2 player advantage.

6. In all other situations FIFA rules apply.

The Leaside-East Toronto Soccer Club operates a SOCCER-SPORTS camp for born from 2000 to 1995, for the last two weeks of July 2007. The cost is $ 190 per week. 2. A DECISION WHETHER TO PLAY A GAME WILL BE MADE AT GAME TIME, ON THE FIELD. GENERALLY A GAME WILL BE CANCELLED IF IT HAS BEEN RAINING STEADILY AND AT GAME TIME IT SEEMS UNLIKELY THAT IT WILL STOP.

3. IF ANY LIGHTNING IS SEEN IN THE SKY, THE GAME WILL BE IMMEDIATELY CANCELLED AND EVERYONE WILL GO HOME.

4. IF MORE THAN 1/2 OF THE GAME HAS BEEN PLAYED WHEN CANCELLED,THE RESULT WILL STAND. IF LESS THAN 1/2 OF THE GAME HAS BEEN PLAYED NO RESULT WILL BE AWARDED. OF IF THE GAMES AT EITHER 6:30 / 7:30 HAVE BEEN CANCELLED FOR RAIN AND LESS THAN 1/2 OF THOSE GAMES WERE PLAYED, ALL GAMES IN THAT DIVISION WILL BE TREATED AS CANCELLED.

5. NO GAMES WILL BE REPLAYED ONCE THEY ARE CANCELLED UNLESS THE GAMES IN THAT DIVISION ARE PLAYED ON 2 SEPARATE NIGHTS.
