Russell Oliver is the lowest of the low. I had a terrible experience when I went to sell two rings. Since this was my first time selling jewelry, I went to two different buyers to compare what they would give me. The first guy said he would give $130.00, then $150.00 and when I thanked him and said I was going to do some comparison shopping, he said if you come back he could go to $200.00. One ring was $1000.00 retail and other I had no idea so I really didn't know what I could get for them. I went to Oliver's and he low balled at first(which is expected). I told him that the other buyer had offered as high as $200 and he told me to go back to the other guy and if I have any trouble, come back to him and he would give me $180. I went back to the first guy who lied through his teeth and claimed he had not told me anything about how much he would give me if I came back so off I went again to Oliver's. Keep in mind this is all within 30 minutes so neither of these bastards could forget what they had just said. I came into Oliver's and he said,"I'll give you $120 for both rings. My mouth dropped open. I reminded him that he had just offered me $180.00 fifteen minutes ago. He said I just playing the two buyers against each other and that wasn't nice. I reminded him again that he told me to come back if the other guy didn't follow through. I was enraged. What kind of person does that to another. As I walked out he kept shouting $120,$120, $120. I would go out of my way to tell anyone NOT to ever go to Oliver's. The man should be dragged off and put away. He has no class, no scruples and no conscience. AVOID him at all costs. No amount of money is worth being taken advantage of my this man. I do not recommend this place. Was this review helpful? Yes | No | Report as Spam |

The "BITCH" is back!! on line of course to discourage anyone from visiting or having and dealings with Russell Oliver. That man is aRUDE,ARROGANT, SON OF A B himself. He called me a "bitch" because I was helping an elderly recently widowed friend of mine who had brought in her cheriched jewelery to get appraised with the hope of getting some cash to help her pay rent. He rummaged through her jewellry with no care at all only to find a 16" 10kt gold chain that he offered ONLY 20 dollars for!!!!I was shocked and amazed that he only offered her that amount and I offered to give her the money myself for the chain. At that point he yelled for me to leave his store.I waited a few seconds and he then repeated it again to GET HER OUT!!only to find later that he called me a BITCH because I was vocal about how he was taking advantage of my 79 year old friend.DO NOT GO TO OLIVER JEWELLER. HE IS A CROOK WHO TAKES ADVANTAGE OF INNOCENT PEOPLE and should not be allowed to do business where he treates people like CRAP

I had the displeasure of meeting Russell Oliver and his son In their Eglinton Avenue store today. I was insulted, lied to and leered at - and, with that, I was treated better than some of the other unfortunate folks who wandered in. The Olivers know that the people walking through their door are in need, or else they wouldn't be there - and they use that to their advantage and profit. I wouldn't fault them for this alone - obviously there's a need for this line of business - but their manner is so wholly unkind and insensitive and brutal that it's difficult to wish them any sort of success. The best word I can find to describe their store is toxic.

THE FOLLOWING IS A TRUE ACCOUNT OF A COUPLE'S ENCOUNTER WITH 'KING OF SCHLOCK' SHYSTER RUSSELL OLIVER: On August 2, 2007 at approximately 2:20 PM when a couple attended Oliver's Eglinton Avenue store and presented Oliver and his 3 employees with just under 2 ounces of 14 karat (58% pure) and 18 karat (75% pure) gold and platinum rings - many of which containing numerous diamonds and semi-precious stones, a portly brown-haired man behind the counter picked up one of the couple's larger pieces - an 18 karat gold cocktail ring containing numerous diamonds and said: "these diamonds [strangely one of the strongest naturally occurring substances on Earth] are all broken" and turned to the couple and said: "For all these pieces, you've got between $150 and $200 worth of gold". The couple - realizing that even using an average of 16 karats (which contains 66% pure gold) at 2 ounces and given the day's spot price of gold alone (not including the value of the silver in the 14 and 18 karat gold, the platinum, or the diamonds and semi-precious stones in many of the rings) was approximately $900 worth of gold, said to the man: "Are you sure, there's just under 2 ounces of 14 and 18 karat gold there and the spot price of gold is US $667 per ounce - so assuming an average of 16 karat or 66% pure gold, that's more like $900 worth of gold". The portly brown-haired man quickly changed his tune and said: "Well how much were you hoping to get for all this jewellery." The male customer replied to the portly brown-haired man: "If I wanted to be lied to, I'd have brought this estate jewellery to a used car salesman for an appraisal." "Hold on!", the portly brown-haired man said, "I can show these pieces to Mr. Oliver if you'd like". A few moments later, a younger bald man (not Russell Oliver) came out, looked at all the couple's pieces and exclaimed: "You've got $500 worth of gold here." "You're not even close", said the male customer. "Besides there's at least $1,000 worth of diamonds and semi-precious stones here, not including the value of the silver and platinum and your guy first told us that the gold was only worth between $150 and $200 - which is it? $500 or $150? I know that if I lie to and cheat customers in my line of work, I go to jail, but apparently not in your business." The bald man asked the male customer: "What line of work are you in?" "I'm a banker", said the customer. "Well we've got a lot of pull here - we can get you fired from your job at the bank.", said the bald man behind the counter. Disgusted at the inference and the conduct of Oliver's employees, the couple demanded the return of their jewellery and began to leave Oliver's store. Just then, The 'King of Schlock' himself, Russell Oliver appeared and exclaimed to his two employees: "I want you to get a still of their faces - look into the camera over there, he said to the couple." The couple took back their estate jewellery and began to leave Oliver's store. To their utter shock and amazement, Oliver and 3 of his employees, the portly brown-haired man, the bald man and another darker-skinned man who was previously seated behind a windowed wall at the back of the store, followed the couple out onto the sidewalk immediately in front of Eglinton Avenue, with Russell Oliver shouting and laughing: "What a bunch of losers - you're probably driving a stolen car - get their plate number". Oliver's 3 employees began pointing and laughing at the couple and smacking their knees as the couple entered their car and proceeded West along Eglinton Avenue. To their utter shock and disgust, when the couple turned their car around at the first available street to proceed East along Eglinton and past Oliver's store, stopping for a traffic light, Oliver and his staff were still standing on the sidewalk, pointing to and laughing at the couple while Oliver himself shouted: "What a bunch of losers - look at their stolen car - bye-bye losers". AVOID DOING ANY BUSINESS WITH THE 'KING OF SCHLOCK' AND SHYSTER RUSSELL OLIVER AND HIS DECEPTIVE BUSINESS PRACTICES AT ALL COST! HE AND HIS EMPLOYEES WILL LIE TO YOU ABOUT THE VALUE OF YOUR GOLD. ACCORDING TO TORONTO POLICE, OLIVER HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED NUMEROUS TIMES IN THE PAST AND HAS SPENT TIME IN THE BACK SEAT OF A POLICE CRUISER ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. I do not recommend this place. My friend and I went to his store in Eglinton Avenue West just to see the Pawnshop,It is a very small store in a nice part of town.We went there & look at the jewelry items in the show cases,I heard him talked to one client very sarcastic attitude, asking irrelevant questions, there's no privacy at all.Clients who are waiting for him can hear all the conversation. My friend and I walked away with bad impression of Him & and his business.

I am currently investigating some history on Russell Oliver. He apparently had a store here in Cambridge, Ontario. And was robbed in broad daylight of all his jewelery. The newspapers say he was tied up in the back of his store, and cleaned out. He was apparently broke, and all his life savings was gone. This happened in 2006. Now he is in business in Toronto, and I just say a T.V. add with him saying he is the Loans Ranger. Good Credit, Bad Credit, $5000.00 $10000.00, $50000.00 or $100000.00 in loans available. What gives?? Sounds like a big insurance scam happened and he is getting away with it. I am checking it out. I have contacts with authorities and files.

This guy is a swindler who just happens to have a store in a nice part of town. My family had recently been through some financial difficulty and he and his son saw it as an advantage. Don't get me wrong, I'm not naive enough to believe that pawnshop owners exist to benefit patrons. However, the man was a far cry from the character he portrays in his ads. Don't be fooled by the facade of Oliver and his store...he's just a con man dressed up nicely.
