Japanese staff and probably Japanese cooks make the difference. If you lived in Japan and are expecting a Japanese experience this is the place to go.

More expensive than the traditional Japanese in Toronto, prices for single such as ramen, charan or donburi are reasonable.

I recommend this place.

7 out of 7 people found this review helpful. Fantastic and the real thing. It's the only place my wife, who is Japanese, thinks is on par with Japan. It's an izakaya style with fantastic, savory almost home-style Japanese dishes. One of the few places not revolving around sushi. Be sure to order some of the items on the cards on the tables (ask the server for a translation if you cannot read Japanese).

Oh, but the sushi, if you choose to, is divine. Very rare to have a sushi chef in in their own yattai separate from the restaurant in Canada, but that is the best way. He truly is a master and serves the best in town. There are a couple of super-high end in Toronto that are just as fresh, but sushi is not usually eaten that way in Japan. For honest, generous portions at market prices (some cheap, some expensive), this is simply the best you can get. Have won over many sushi fans here.

Finally, the atmosphere is utterly authentic. That means the tacky steel chairs, the tat on the walls, the dim lighting, the wonderfully attentive service, and care taken with every single dish, pour of a drink, etc.

Final sell: this is where Ichiro or Matsui eat when they play the Jays here in Toronto.

I recommend this place.

I recommend this place.
