0 out of 0 people found this review helpful. The food is awful and lacked any taste!
The bread was so dry that it would cut your mouth.

Drinks are disgustingly over priced got more expensive throughout the evening.

The Empire Restaurant does has the potential to have a great atmosphere, but requires a bit of music and better lighting.

There are so many fine establishments in downtown Toronto. The Empire Restaurant is certainly not one of them.

I do not recommend this place.

1 out of 1 people found this review helpful. I can't say much about the food since we just went there to drink and dance, but from what I've heard, it's pretty good (and expensive). They also have a very nice wine list, and you can bring your own wine too (corckage fee applies).
The atmosphere is what got me... very cool and trendy. A dark, intimate scene overall. It has two floors, both with their own bars and dancing area. The patio's very nice, overlooking Cumberland between Yonge and Bay. Washroom was clean. The crowd was good looking: everyone was well-dressed and the girls were good overall. The music was a mix of house, African, and Arabic beats. I went on a Saturday and they had African and Arabic dancers, and I think they did a bit of jazz too. Overall, the beats were pretty good.
The drinks are also priced a bit higher: a gin and tonic and a apple martini came to $21.04 with tax. But both the drinks were good, and I tried my friend's martini and it was flawless.
And the staff... usually such upscale places are full of snobs wishing to be smacked in the head! This place wasn't like that at all. From the bouncer to the bartender, they were are friendly. Overall, I had a great night. I'm going to visit this place more often, especially now that it's just 1 minute away from my home.

I recommend this place.
