This IGA is very convienient. Located in the heart of Greektown Toronto, it is always open on holidays. The Greeks don't believe in Canadian Holidays. The prices are average and the store is clean. The staff service on the other hand is at a poor level. The cashiers are unfriendly and don't seem to be interested in helping you if you need it. I've asked for items several times that they said they don't carry. Then after searching for alternatives, found the item I was looking for. The guys that stock the shelves are another problem. More than twice have I had them ram my shopping cart with thier skids of product, without an apology or even warning they were near. Also, the reason I'm writing this is that I recently witnessed one employee who looked like he was working hard was being reprimanded in the store in front of customers. Meanwhile, on the other side of the store two other boys were throwing food items, blocks of cheese etc at each other and calling out foul names to each other and laughing about it. A decent store is easily revealed by decent management. This is not one of them.

I bought my groceries at 449 pm on Friday night at the IGA Store on Danforth and Pape. First, the cashier and baggers are never gentle with my items. On the 25, i came in and bought a cake for a friend. when the cashier went to bing the item in, she literally tipped the box to the side and upside down to bing it in. Finally i had enough and said to her, "Excuse me, its simple enough to see its a birthday cake, please open the box to make sure you didn't damage the item". She looked at me dumb founded and opened the box, the cake frosting was damaged. when i had to go back to the bakery section to get another cake, she acted as if i was bothering her because i didn't want to purchase a cake that was damaged. when i asked her to key in the item, instead of tilt it (because she tried to tilt the box again) she looked at me as if i were from mars. How hard is it to be a cashier,my sister was a bagger when she was a teen and her husband his a manager at a major food store. I know what i am asking for isn't too much. How hard is it to not put my bread UNDER my huge distilled water? Do i have to ask you to not put my canned items in with my bananas? I even bunch the items together, in hopes they will get it mostly right. What do i have to do? Go behind the counter and ring it up myself, bag it myself and deliver it myself? On the subject of delivery i present my next subject. The deliver finally got to my house, which is literally one street over and a few houses down from IGA, delivered at 730pm. When the groceries came i the four boxes, i was puzzled. Where was my fresh produce. Bringing the boxes inside and unloading the items i was appalled to see my fresh produce under piles of canned goods. not just one item, ALL of my fresh produce. What idiot piles heavy and big cans upon cans on top of sprouts, baby mixed greens, lettuce, spinach, bananas, avacados? these are things that bruise easily, this is just common sense people. Where do they find these employees? Am i asking for too much that they dont pack the frozen(now completely thawed chicken) next to the box of cereal. which if it werent for the pastic sealed bag inside of the box, the grain would be contaminated. I could go on with boring details, but the point is the groceries that i paid for looked like they used my grocery items for there target and basketball practice. And this isnt the first time something completely unprofessional has happened either, there is the time i asked for a half pound of sliced chicken, when i got home i found she charged me 14.23 for it. when i took it back to the store the cashier had the audacity to say it was my fault. The only reason why i gave the store a three instead of a one, is because i called the store and asked to speak to the manager. when i finally got him on the line and told him of my service or lack there of, he humbly apologized and asked which items were damaged and promply redelivered new items. After i called, i received the new groceries about twenty minutes later. Now if only i could order my groceries via phone every week and have them show up twenty minutes later in a nice clean box, then id give IGA a 6. I do not recommend this place.
