You can't miss Rube. He's the only guy in the Market wearing "Rice Man Cometh" on his t-shirt. He's probably the oldest vendor too, but you'd never know it. Though Rubin Marcus is 70-something, he acts like an irrepressible 20-year-old.

Selling rice and beans is actually Rube's second career. At 65, he retired as an electrician with the Toronto Board of Education. Being too young for a rocking chair, he looked for a stall at the Makret. "There were plenty of meat and cheese stores," he says, "but nobody was selling beans and rice."

Tues-Thurs 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
Fridays 8 a.m.-7 p.m.
Saturdays 5 a.m.-5 p.m.
