TurtIe's Fish wild fish products of the Saugeen Ojibway fishery from the cool northern waters around the Bruce Peninsula now available fresh frozen at Foodsmiths store. The Chippewas of Nawash and Saugeen have fished commercially in their traditional waters around the Bruce Peninsula waters for centuries. Although historically the First Nations along the Great Lakes have operated a commercial fishery among themselves for over a thousand years, they lost these commercial rights as non-native fishers took control over the fishery. Ten years ago the Chippewas of Nawash and Saugeen regained their right to commercial fish the waters surrounding the Bruce Peninsula through a supreme court ruling. Today this fishery brings you wild whitefish and trout products harvested from these waters. With the supreme court decision, the Chippewas of Nawash and Saugeen regained their right to manage this fishery. In keeping with our historical traditions, this fishery is now being managed under sustainable fishery management practices supported by biology ts from the University of Guelph. Turtle' Fresh Fish is composed of the fishers and fishery' workers who present you with quality Turtle's Fish Products harvested from this unique local fishery. By practicing sustainable fishery management, this resource will benefit us and our southern neighbours through future generations. In our traditional mythology, the turtle represents mother earth who provides the resources to sustain the humankind The health of the turtle, of course, determines how well the earth can sustain us. Our role as stewards of this fishery is to ensure that it stays healthy and can contribute its northern bounty to sustain the people. Available White Fish, Trout year round, Pickerel and Perch in season I recommend this place. Was this review helpful? Yes | No | Report as Spam |
