The store is not selling Elite product anymore. There is some in the basement being sold off at a discount but I did not see any upstairs.

Most of the product is made in Canada now.

The store has many new suppliers and the displays look very fresh and interesting.

The store is not the same as before. The owners are new, the furniture is new, the designs are new.

If you have not been there in 2008 you do not know what you are talking about.

BTW the Elite furniture is still sold all over town. GH Johnston still sells a ton of it. If you want Elite go there.

I recommend this place.

From a friend who purchases furniture from Elite (upcountry's main supplier) I found out upcountry was marking things up 200% retail should be a 100% mark up. I also know from being in the industry that there are many other manufacturers that offer the same style and look for 20% less cost than elite. Theses other suppliers also have much better quality furniture. I bought one item from upcountry, and elite bed. It came with the frame cracked, and they blamed it on the transport company. I looked at the box carefully and there were no marks from abuse from transporting the piece. What i did notice is that they barely package the furniture, and the veneer is paper thin. Its all press board crap. Anyone purchasing elite or upcountry is getting majorly Ripped off. My suggestion is to steer clear.
I do not recommend this place.

One of the things they are trying to do is to provide good, proper, if you will, customer service to try and repair the damage that the owners did when the store was in financial trouble. that sort of practice of taking people's money knowing that they are just trying to recover but my risk bankruptcy in my opinion is totally unethical. the secured creditors are not only trying to sell off stock to recoupe loss but they are also thinking about re-opening as a legit business, although scaled down to a point where it makes sense.

anyway, i did buy the stuff and delivery arrangements will be made tomorrow. i will report back on how it goes but at this point they are not selling anything that isnt on the floor already and they have 3 different suppliers for delivery door to door.

right now stuff is marked down quite a bit and in some cases is 1/2 half an already discounted price. so there are some good deals to be had.

i have a good feeling about the "new" upcountry that may come fruition in the next few months. but for now i think you can rest assured buying from the store as its under trustee control and you get what you see.

they will take credit cards which is great too. and no tax on the prices.

I recommend this place.
