UpCountry has had new owners since the bankruptcy and is staying in business. I read a number of posts here that make me think that many of them were posted by other stores. If you have not been to the store in 2008 everything posted before is no longer current or relevant. The owners in 2007 were going bankrupt and did go bankrupt. The store is no longer owned by them and is no longer dealing with many of the previous suppliers who were selling the cheap Chinese made furniture. This furniture is still widely sold in Toronto so if you want it you can find it easily. Most of what UpCountry is selling now is made in Canada with less than half of its items imported according to the new owners. Go to King Street and ask the staff or the owner (he is around quite a bit) anything you want about the furniture. And take what you read elsewhere here with a grain of salt. I recommend this place. I have been reading the reviews on Upcountry for quite a while and they have been somewhat comforting. I guess the expression misery loves company applies here. We too have been the victims of this company to the tune of an $1100 deposit on items ordered last December. We approached visa but since we were over the time limit they could not help us. We were not lucky enough to be in a position to cart things out of the store so I would like to know if anybody has had any success recently in getting some satisfaction. I have considered approaching the wholesalers directly because I did read in the star that Elite designs was trying to fill orders but I suppose if they have been left with monies owing that they will not be in much of a position to help anyone out. I usually follow the adage it ain't over till it's over so I guess I am just waiting for someone to give me the final word. Thanks and my condolences to others who have been taken by the incompetence of Mr Iwaskiw's ownership and management of Upcountry. I do not recommend this place. Was this review helpful? We were a supplier of UpCountry and we were contacted on Friday by their office and told that the company had gone bankrupt earlier in the week. It is an unfortunate situation, knowing the principles, I know that business was a struggle and that the intention was to hang on. Needless to say, we have orders in work for them and P.O's from customers who will not get shipped. We were their main supplier for mid century modern iconic furniture and will agree to sell directly to customers who lost deposits with UpCountry at a discount. We are typically wholesale only, but will do what we can to help people who have lost money with wholesale pricing. www.pinkandbrown.com I do not recommend this place. Was this review helpful?
