Hernando's Hideaway - June 18, 2006

The menu is HUGEEE, so you have lots of choices whether you want mexican, or you want something a little more general (steaks, chicken etc). To start we had the appetiser version of the carne nachos, which was taco beef, pico de gallo, monterey jack cheese, and red sauce, served with sour cream and guacamole (9.59) for the size of a regular dinner plate. PS:their guac is VERY good!! As my main I had the appetiser steak quesedillas for 9.40$ with side of fries (2.99). The quesidilla was realllly good, you can also get it in a meal with salad, beans and rice (but i would have rather had fries). My sister had a chicken fajita, which was served in a sizzling skillet wth all the dressings for your quesidillas. This was pretty good service (as it wasnt busy) and pretty good food for the prices.
I recommend this place.

Armadillo Texas Grill - June 18, 2006

Since we were some of the only people in the restaurant (sunday night), our service was fairly good, with our server constantly refilling our drinks, and our complimentary bowl of nachos and salsa. After hearing about their famous ribs, I decided to give them a try. I got the half rack of baby back ribs (which was plenty) for 14.95 with fries. The sauce on them was deeeeelicous, a nice tangy sauce which wasnt TOO saucy, but not TOO dry. The fries were also pretty good. For dessert I had an amazing apple crisp served in a sizzling skillet topped with vanilla ice cream . IT WAS SOOOO DELICIOUS! just make sure you dont burn your tongue.
I recommend this place.

Spice of Life - June 18, 2006

This cute little restaurant is situated in the beautiful Yorkville (normally very pricey, but this place was really well priced). To start they brought out complimentary shrimp chips with peanut sauce (yum), and I of course ordered vegetarian spring rolls (4.95). They were some of the best Ive ever had. As my main I had a veryy generous portion of the spicy thai basil noodles with beef, flat rice noodles , sweet pepper, chilli, onion and basil for only $ 11.95!! I was quite impressed. This menu is QUITE extensive, so come with an idea of whether you want chicken, beef, veg, shrimp, pork, rice, noodles, thai or indian. The only dissapointing aspect was the service. We were one of the only people in the restaurant, and although staff members walked around aimlessly, we were not even offered drinks for about 7-10 minutes. Oh well, the food cam fast enough and was amazing!
I recommend this place.

Serra Restaurant - June 18, 2006

We sat right beside the kitchen, and could watch as they made the amazing dishes because there is a huge window revealing the stone oven inside. Although they brought out an amazing assortment of breads (complimentary), we ordered a delicious appetiser of bruschetta to start (7.45). As my main, I ordered an amazing angel hair with grilled chicken, sundried tomators, red onions, garlic and olive oil in a tormator sauce (12.95). The portion was perfect, and the pasta was so wonderfully delicate. For dessert I had a delicious toffee apple cheesecake, a very small round dessert, enough to satisfy without totally making you burst from eating so much. 100% RECOMMENDED!!
I recommend this place.

However, this meant that the service was incredible! We were brought delicious bread with an interesting spread to go with it (complimentary). But to start we ordered a pizetta *8' stone oven baked pizza bruschetta). It was delicious, covered withe bruschetta mixture but instead of thick bread slices, on a thin crust stone pizza crust. As my main I had the pesto penne with chicken, sundried tomatoes and mushrooms excpet instead of pesto , I substituted the spicy tomato sauce for only 14.95. It was the perfect portion and an increddddibllle meal! It was also a very interesting decor, very spacy and modern with interesting cut outs in the walls. DEFINETLY RECOMENDED!
I recommend this place.
