I wish to sincerely thank Bhumija for responding to the comments made by someone falsely using her name. Unfortunately, anyone can write a review on these types of websites which is why anything you read here should be take with a "grain of salt". As mentioned in my last email, if you are seriously considering any school, take a moment to give the school a call and speak with an admissions representative. Since my last review, I am happy to say that Kent College has received Program Survey Status from the CDAC. This is a testament to the quality of the dental hygiene program at Kent College. A word of caution to any one doing research on dental hygiene schools in Ontario. The CDAC has commenced a program by which Program Survey Status can be taken away from colleges that do not meet the standards which they themselves have submitted to the CDAC. This is to say that Program Survey Status is achieved through a process in which colleges submit their program documentation to the CDAC. The CDAC then performs an on-site inspection. If the college fails to meet the criteria set forth in their own submission, the Program Survey Status is removed. This year, at least one college has lost its Program Survey Status. Losing the survey status should set-up some "red flags" for potential students. To whoever reads this review - Have a Great 2008! I recommend this place. Was this review helpful? I am a faculty member at Kent College and came across this website by chance. The "Anonymous" submission below is of concern to me because of the time and effort but in to our program by both staff and students. I would like to address some of these inaccuracies First, “Anonymous” states that the school is all about the money. Kent College could charge substantially more for its dental hygiene program given that the tuition at most schools in Ontario is over $30,000.00. Instead, Kent College chooses to offer a quality dental hygiene program at a more affordable tuition. It has also introduced a student scholarship program that provides students with a monetary incentive to achieve good grades. Does this sound like a school that is trying to “rip” students off? Second, “Anonymous” states that the college looks like a “dump”. If you are interested in attending this school, visit the website and look at pictures of the facility – the pictures speak for themselves. Third, “Anonymous” states that he/she had to take 12 classes while taking clinic. The college’s first group of students took more classes than normally would be the case because the college wanted to ensure that the students received adequate theory training. To do this, the administration at Kent College added extra classes to the curriculum, at no extra charge to students. Does this sound like a school that does not care about its students? Forth, “Anonymous” states that the school was trying to graduate his/her class as quickly as possible so that the CDAC would not catch the college’s mistake. What the mistake is, I really am not sure. An 18 month program is an 18 month program. When students finish, they graduate or they fail. There is no “hurrying” in this process. It is interesting to note that although “Anonymous” felt that his/her class were not adequately prepared, over 80% of his/her classmates passed the board exam on their first attempt.. Every school has its share of disgruntled students. However, based on my experience, a student’s dissatisfaction usually has to do with their own academic performance as opposed to the school, teachers or curriculum – even though they won’t admit to it. My advice to anyone considering any school is to do your research. Websites like this can be useful for research purposes. However, one-sided statements like the one made by “Anonymous” can be misleading and cause you to discount a school for no valid reason. If you can, speak to past graduates of the school you are considering. If you can, speak with current students at the school you are considering. Definitely speak with the Registrar of the school you are considering and make a point to visit the campus, if at all possible. I recommend this place. Was this review helpful?
