Great for basic clothing, Chocky's sells underwear, socks, undershirts, caps, and even camping gear at wholesale prices. A good place to buy plain tees to get printed on later. They also have a frequent shopper's card, whereby spending $250 will save you $25 on the next purchase.

Lance Lorents Ltd - |

Sure, some nice sweaters and micro suede skirts, and yes, most are available in a few dozen colours. If my friends were seniors, I would, indeed, recommend this place. While the styles may be for the older crowd, it is a good place to get half off Italian designer labels, sold exclusively at Lance Lorents. New Marikan, Ella Lu, Emilio Bravini, Giordianno Moda are just some of the names in store.

Jayn Simpson & Tricia Cochran Collection - |

I recommend, if you have the cash. Debuting in Loreal's Fashion week in Spring 2005, Jayn Simpson is a new high-end designer in the Toronto Fashion scene. Inspired by Victorian romance and old Hollywood glamour, the designs combine both old and new styles-gangster moll suits, silk chiffon corsets, lots of lace, silks, leathers, and feathers. Really nice stuff, but it comes at a price. Ready-to-wear is between $300 and $1700, while couture and bridle starts around $3000.

A small shop north of Rosedale subway station brings the latest designer labels from New York and Los Angeles, hence the name NYLA. Pics of celebs wearing the wardrobe you have in hand to tickle you're buying bone. You don't *quite* have to be a star to shop at Nyla, but most of the tops and pants are between $200-300.

The Gem Bar & Grill - |

'Tis truly a hidden gem, this bar is located in an obsure neck of the woods, a place I wouldn't have sought out but was fortunate enough to stumble upon. With black and red decor throughout its small dining/drinking floor, they play old vinyl of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. The thing I love best about this place is its independent quality, which is becoming few and far between in this great city; with pub franchises popping up all over, it's wonderful to find a unique spot that hasn't been tainted by the homogeny of our times.

Copia Grille & Wine Lounge - |

Best described as upscale casual, Copia serves the business crowd of the Front Street Area. Upon entering the restaurant, straight ahead is the bar area with a waterfall flowing behind their various wines and spirits. To the right is the finer dining area while to the left is the lounge side, with comfy couches and booths. The food is excellent, especially the Cajun Chicken Wrap and the Peppered Sirloin Salad, grilled to your preference. Like the name suggests, they offer a wide range of domestic and international wines, by glass or bottle.

Einstein Cafe & Pub - |

With "Where Great Minds Drink Alike" as its slogan, its hard to imagine the many U of T students who frequent this spot actually get any of their school work done. But with happy diversions like foozball, pool and NTN, it is equipped with free wi-fi access for those who want to sip a beer while writing their Masters thesis. Though the crowd is not limited to students, Ein-Stein is a great spot to get food and drink at a reasonable price. Known for its huge wings and odd - yet delicious - deep fried pickles, it is also a strong supporter of local micro-breweries. An added bonus for smokers: it is equipped with a seperately ventilated DSR, much to the relief of those tired of shivering during the winter months.
