Lee Restaurant - July 18, 2007
6 out of 6 people found this review helpful. The servers are probably the friendliest and most welcoming servers I have had in Toronto. Not only that, the tapas style food is most excellent. Very excellent dining experience! Even got to see the man himself, Susur Lee. Do yourself a favour and check it out.

Jerk Hut - July 5, 2007
1 out of 1 people found this review helpful. only a couple of tables to sit down and enjoy your meal. it is more of a take out place. i really enjoy the roti and plantain. it was very filling and for a pretty good price (around $7.50 after taxes). The service is friendly though not that fast when it gets busy.

The Main Squeeze Limited - June 15, 2007
4 out of 4 people found this review helpful. EXPENSIVE. a medium gourmet soup will cost 7.92 after taxes. If you use interac that's an extra 50 cents. for a medium soup. regular, "non gourmet" soups are 3.99 for a medium, still not cheap.

with price out of the way, let me just say the pita's, smoothies and soups are DELICIOUS. very good and healthy food, with friendly customer service. they also have a small patio to enjoy your smoothie in the sun!

I recommend this place.

Little Saigon - June 12, 2007
2 out of 3 people found this review helpful. the air circulation could be a little better, as there is a strong food smell that will linger on your clothing if you are in there too long, but the food is excellent. its run by two very sweet and friendly Asians who cook every dish with love! the prices are great, around the $5 range and always fresh. great place to grab some Asian food on the run.

4 out of 4 people found this review helpful. Delicious food, friendly but slow service. The portions look relatively small, but don't let that fool you, the injera will fill you up fast! Take your time when eating or else you'll just feel really full really fast. They have vegetarian or meat options.

Debu Saha's Biryani House - June 12, 2007
2 out of 5 people found this review helpful. Very friendly staff, though on the slow side. It took a long time to get our appetizers, but they let us know that it would take a while and offered us an alternative appetizer which would be ready immediately which we declined. The presentation of the food is excellent, and the taste is even better! They have fixed priced 3 or 4 course veggie or non veggie menus which are fantastic. Highly recommended.

Sushi Island - May 21, 2007
11 out of 12 people found this review helpful. amazing all you can eat deals! the foods presentation isn't the greatest and the servers get really busy , but just the fact that the food tastes good and is all you can eat is worth it. They have 3 different types of all you can eat at different prices, the cheapest having a limited menu and $12.99, and the most expensive have the entire menu for $20.99. It is an extra $2 per person on Friday thru Sunday. I will definitely be back.

Shopsy's Deli & Restaurants - May 21, 2007
0 out of 0 people found this review helpful. Stay away from their breakfast. They burned my toast and my home fries. The sausages tasted great and the eggs were ok. Of course it is more known for being a Deli but I didn't think they would mess up breakfast that bad. My friends ordered sandwiches and they said were delicious, so I'll probably give this place another chance, but next time order a non breakfast item.

Ruth's Chris Steak House - May 16, 2007
1 out of 1 people found this review helpful. i thought the service was fantastic. our server was friendly and funny, almost as if we were just regular customers/friends. i really liked that, but i can see how some people may wish to keep it a little more formal.
The food was expensive. A potato cut into four pieces cost $8. Most of what was on the menu was pricey, including the steaks. The steak here is fantastic. Made just the way you like it and they come on simmering plates that just sizzle.
I recommend this place based off of the steaks and service. The side orders though do leave a lot to be desired.

It is a fast food type place in that you pick up your food when its ready. Hotspot Cafe - December 16, 2006
1 out of 1 people found this review helpful. They make fresh and delicious sandwiches that are around 5 bucks. the service is kinda weird. there was nobody in line and i asked the employee where i place my order. she pointed me to the other end of the counter so i went there and waited. i kept looking at her to see when she would take my order or if somebody else would come take it but she never looked. finally i said something and then she asked what i would like and made my sandwich... quite odd. then when my order came i was a penny short (it was 5.46). i asked if that was ok and they said no. so i broke a $20 and they hand me 14.55 in change (in other words, i paid 5.45)!! just weird.

HIRO Sushi Restaurant - December 16, 2006
0 out of 0 people found this review helpful. Hiro Sushi has excellent sushi and excellent presentation of the sushi. the chef is very reknown and many hail this place as one of the best sushi spots in downtown. the prices are above average compared to other sushi restaurants in toronto (lunch will cost you around 20 bucks, dinner even more then that). inside could use some renovating and the service is not the greatest. one thing to note is that the wasabi is already combined in the sushi. the first time i went i had thought they had forgotten to bring it to us and had trouble flagging down the waitress only to tell us that there was wasabi in it already.

Harbour Sixty Steak House - December 6, 2006
3 out of 4 people found this review helpful. delicious steaks. but their sides, especially their french fries, could be improved. the french fries were probably the worst french fries i have ever eaten at any restaurant. considering that this is supposed to be one of the top steak houses in toronto, that is not acceptable in my opinion, especially when you are paying top dollar for quality. yes, things on this menu are not cheap and thus be very careful what you order (ie stay away from the french fries). i also had mushroom ragout on the side which was decent and crab cakes to start which were fabulous. overall it was a very satisfying meal and the service was excellent (complimentary valet parking is nice) but the price is heavy. when you go to places like this, you pay top dollar but you are expecting quality. i was disappointed on the quality of the sides and thus give this place a lower rating then it probably could get. the steaks, however, are top notch.

Old Spaghetti Factory - August 28, 2006
1 out of 2 people found this review helpful. this is a very big restaurant just behind the hummingbird centre. on entrance it is very old fashioned looking and the lighting is dim. the place was very busy and the greeting staff didn't want to take us to our seats, instead they just told us where to go by giving directions. that was a first for me. the menu is fairly big, and main entree prices range anywhere from $10-$18, which is pretty good considering the meals come with soup or salad, sourdough bread with garlic butter (tastes VERY good), coffee/tea and ice cream. i ordered the lasagna which tasted delicious. the only gripe i have with this place is the wait staff seemed to rush us thru our meal which was a turn off. other then that, i would definitely recommend this place.

Whole Foods Market - August 28, 2006

5 out of 8 people found this review helpful. this place rocks. the atmosphere is very chill, low lit, these guys are nocturnal. open 24 hours all the time, you really can't go wrong. the food is ok, nothing spectacular and the average menu item will run you about 10 bucks. however, it is an excellent place for many occasions (date, quick bite, late night snacking, etc.) so i give it the thumbs up.

ps, u can easily walk right past this place. it looks like an old beatup house from the outside.

I recommend this place.

Dhaba Indian Excellence - July 26, 2006
5 out of 7 people found this review helpful. i went for the all you can eat lunch buffet. it has a large selection, the largest i've seen of any indian restaurant. most of the food is fresh and delicious, tho i did see some items that appeared to have been sitting there for a while. i noticed the staff checking out my date, but they were speaking a language i couldn't understand. they were a friendly bunch, tho not necessarily the quickest. the rice pudding had something in it that was black and definitely wasn't supposed to be there. this place consistently gets stellar reviews, however when i tried it i thought it was slightly above average.
I recommend this place.

Exotic Tandoori Restaurant - July 26, 2006
6 out of 7 people found this review helpful. fast, friendly service. it is pretty hot in the place, as i don't think there is air conditioning. their lunch specials are very affordable and quite filling. add rice and potatoes to each lunch combo for a little bit more money. a good place to go for takeout lunch specials.
I recommend this place.

Ho Su Bistro - July 6, 2006
2 out of 2 people found this review helpful. not bad. its busy during lunch time but even still the service is fast and friendly. they have a very large lunch menu that ranges from the $7-$10 range. the food itself is pretty good tho the presentation isn't the best. good place on the fast paced queen st w.
I recommend this place.

PITA Break - July 4, 2006
3 out of 3 people found this review helpful. what a great little pita place. the pita's are really well made, with a fairly wide selection of different pita breads. the prices are around $5-$7 for a pita, not bad as the pita's are pretty filling. the service is friendly, and the food ingredients are fresh. my pita tasted delicious, better then most pita places i've been to.
I recommend this place.

Pizza Rustica - June 21, 2006
4 out of 5 people found this review helpful. The pizzas are very filling and quite interesting. Lots of options to choose from. I ended up going with the Frutti Di Mare or something. It was a seafood pizza with tiger shrimp, scallops and calamari on it. Very different. I also got the whole wheat crust which is more filling and cost and extra $2. The pizza's are a little more expensive then usual but not outrageous, the average price seemed to be around $15. I really enjoyed their smoothies as well. I recommend the Strawberry Breeze, its delicious! The staff was friendly and accommadating, overall the experience was quite good.
I recommend this place.

Salad King & Linda Restaurant - June 12, 2006
4 out of 4 people found this review helpful. this restaurant is always busy. i think its safe to say that most people enjoy the food and prices and that may be the reason. i really love their pineapple beef, its excellent. they also have great cashew chicken among other things. i go here fairly frequently and have never had a bad experience. tho it does feel kinda cramped like you are eating at a high school cafeteria. for a more restuarant feel go upstairs.
I recommend this place.

Mullins Irish Pub - June 12, 2006
5 out of 6 people found this review helpful. mullin's has a very at home feel to it. the owner is extremely friendly and is always there greeting people, making sure everybody is having a good time. its a small and cosy atmosphere, but the servers really take the time to get to chat it up with you and get to know you a little bit. the food is excellent, especially their chicken wings. the prices are average, not too expensive and certainly not cheap but they do have daily food specials i suggest you take advantage of. i certainly have a good time everytime i go.
I recommend this place.

C Lounge - June 11, 2006
1 out of 4 people found this review helpful. its a hassle to get into this place. there is no line. its more like a semi circle of ppl waiting at the door hoping the bouncer looks at you after consulting with the guest list checker. my buddy made reservations with guest list but for some reason our name wasn't on the list. so we had to wait a little longer. good thing it wasn't a very busy night or we could have been waiting for quite a while. kudos to the bouncer tho, who was the most respectful and polite bouncer i've ever encountered. cover is $10 and dress code is strict.

once inside tho, the atmosphere is really nice and the female staff are friendly and hot. in the back is the pool with big lounge couches and cabanas, which totally kicks butt. the food is open late as well, which is a bonus.

the drinks are on the higher end but not outrageous, and their is VIP booths with bottle service if you can afford it ($150 was the cheapest bottle i saw, not sure if there is a minimum bottle order).

overall i'd give it a thumbs up, i had a great time.

I recommend this place.

Magic Oven - June 11, 2006
2 out of 3 people found this review helpful. its a below average place to eat in terms of atmosphere (its hot inside and the patio is small and shared with the cafe next door), but the food is delicious. i really enjoyed their tandoori wings, and their gourmet pizzas are superb. the prices are slightly above normal, but that's probably due to the amount of different options you have for your pizza. i definitely recommend this place.

Milestone's - May 5, 2006
5 out of 7 people found this review helpful. the first time i went to milestones was a horrible experience. i ordered a sandwich and it took an hour to get to me, and when it did the french fries were cold. on my way out, the hostess was entertaining someone and she flailed her hands in the air as i was walking past her from behind, and she smoked me in the forehead. i told myself i was never coming to milestones again. that was a couple of years ago. fast track to present day, and i've been back twice, one time for drinks and last night for dinner and i must say, the experience both times were pretty positive. for one, i didn't get backhanded by the employees (in fact they were quite friendly and helpful) and the atmosphere is really nice in there. the food is also tasty and fairly large portions. i'm wiling to look past my bad first experience and recommend this place for a good night of food and drink, especially as a pre party meetup spot.

2 out of 2 people found this review helpful. this place has delicious combinations of pizza and pie. their pizza is very stellar, some of the best i've had in this city. each is unique and delcious. same goes for their pies. its a very tiny place but the atmosphere is very cozy and the service is most excellent. great little place to check out if you are ever in the yorkville region.

The Gateway's of India - April 29, 2006
1 out of 4 people found this review helpful. the lunch buffet is good. its a fair selection and they change up the menu. for 7.95 all you can eat its a good deal. the indian food is nothing spectacular and buffets are always a good idea until u finish eating (in which case you ask yourself what the heck you were thinking). the service is a little slow as they seem to be a understaffed during lunch time.

Natural Sushi Japanese Restaurant - April 18, 2006
3 out of 3 people found this review helpful. i have had better, but i've definitely had worse. the prices are good, especially the bento boxes. and students will like this place as they get an extra discount. not many sushi places accept the ISIC card but they do. the food was speedy, but that may be because I was pretty much the only one in there. i also went at lunch. they have a lot of options on the menu which is also a plus.
I recommend this place.

Ginger 2 - April 18, 2006
1 out of 3 people found this review helpful. so you order something and then they give you a number. when the food is ready the waiter goes to every table looking for the number. it has got to be the most inefficient way of serving food i have ever witnessed. it wasn't that busy when i went so it wasn't that big of a deal, but i can only imagine if all the tables were taken how long the poor waiter would have to walk around looking for the number. anyways, other then that, the food was ok. decent sized portions, decent prices, and the food was ready fairly quickly. oh, and they only have one garbage in the whole place. i couldn't find it and it took me a while before i was able to throw out my can of coke. kinda silly that they only had one.
I recommend this place.

Barberian's Steak House - April 14, 2006
1 out of 1 people found this review helpful. amazing steaks, great service. not very well lit, i guess that's what they were going for, and the presentation of the food is pretty plain. but their steaks are DELICIOUS. keep in mind most steaks range in the $40 price range, which is not cheap but you are paying for quality. i love it here, so i give it a thumbs up.

Ethiopian House Restaurant - April 12, 2006
1 out of 1 people found this review helpful. its not for everybody, but its definitely for me! everything on the menu is served with jello like bread called injera. the texture of injera takes a bit of getting used to. but once u do and you grab the food with it (no utensils here!) there's no looking back. they have a good selection of items that are unique to ethiopian cuisine including a specialty coffee blend that takes 45 minutes to prepare. sounds yummy, although i didn't get it (i'd love to hear a review if you've had it before.) it was a pleasant experience and i'd like to go back to try out other menu items.
I recommend this place.

3 out of 3 people found this review helpful. they have a menu of items for 5 bucks, not a bad price at all for the food you get. i love the burgers here, they are great. excellent place for students to grab a quick, unhealthy bite to eat. giver a whirl (it beats the other food places beside it.)

Saigon Palace Restaurant - April 6, 2006
3 out of 4 people found this review helpful. good prices. i love the pho here, and its nice and close to UofT's st. george campus. i wish they gave u more bean sprouts, but its only because the pho portions are so ginourmous. the food comes fairly quickly tho i have found that if you ask for water it takes a while. still, saigon is a good place to go for lunch if ur near the northern end of chinatown and are craving some affordable vietnamese.
I recommend this place.

Fran's Restaurant - April 6, 2006
4 out of 7 people found this review helpful. fran's is a very average, overpriced diner. the coffee was bad (and i drink some pretty gross coffee sometimes), the waiter took his sweet time on everything and the food was very very ordinary. i ordered fran's energy breakfast which was homefries (slightly burnt), ham (i think it was sandwich meat), 3 scrambled eggs (covered in grease), and a croissant. overall i'd say skip it and go elsewhere, but if ur in the area and ur absolutely starving and its breakfast time and ur willing to pay for bad service and average food i guess u could giver a go. tho i wouldn't suggest it.

Hoops Sports Bar & Grill - March 23, 2006
1 out of 1 people found this review helpful. there aren't many sports bars in my area that show the UFCs but hoops came through. it gets a little packed and i think the$10 cover charge to sit in the bar while the event is on is ridiculous but i guess they'll try to make money however they can. i can't complain tho, minus the fight that broke out outside that eventually lead to the broken window glass that came flying into and around my feet resulting from that fight. if u like sports and beer (who doesn't?) then its a good place to go hang out. if that doesn't sound like a good night to u, stay far away.

The Bowl - March 23, 2006
2 out of 2 people found this review helpful. i went in for some takeout, but it looks very nice inside. the waitress was very friendly but she didn't know what scallions were. i think its important that the staff know what is going into the food on their menus but its a minor detail. i got the large curry soup bowl and i must say it was DELICIOUS. i highly recommend it, and i think it only came to 8 bucks after tax. i was stuffed!

Big Sushi - February 25, 2006
3 out of 3 people found this review helpful. what a pleasant surprise. looking in on the outside i thought it was a really small place, but upon entering i realised that it extended all the way back. in the back it was a rather cosy atmosphere. i was in good company, so i didn't mind the ridonkulously long wait time just to take our order. but once we got that the food was fairly quick to arrive. the presentation of the food was excellent, one of the better sushi places in toronto. the food itself wasn't too bad, i had the affordable lunch special of dynamite and avocado roll. my friend ordered a sweet potato roll, i had a piece and it was quite delicious. i recommend that one if you go to big sushi.
I recommend this place.

Bloor Street Diner - February 24, 2006
1 out of 1 people found this review helpful. its a fancier place. the food is decent, nothing special for the price you pay. the service i wouldn't say is particularly friendly. i've been there 3 times now and its never been above average. the wait times for food can be really long. the second time i was there we had to wait a really long time just for the bill!

i like the fixed price menu. gives you quite a few options for you to mix and match. what's even better then that is the dinner and movie combo. you save yourself quite a bit of money and the theatre is in the same building so its convenient and will save you a couple of bucks.

I recommend this place.

New Yorker Deli - February 24, 2006
1 out of 3 people found this review helpful. they paint the statue of liberty on the wall, you know to give you that pleasant warm and fuzzy new york feeling. the food portion was small and the juice was expensive. the bacon didn't taste that great either. as far as deli's go its nothing special. if you go to a deli in new york u know the portions are massive, so the name is kinda trickery. i'd suggest elsewhere.

CIAO EDIE - February 22, 2006
2 out of 2 people found this review helpful. A great place on a Tuesday! The DJ played great old school hip hop and there was a massive breakdancing battle going on! Great stuff - Amsterdams were $4 - pretty decent. Cool atmosphere, a bit hot. But very busy and an eclectic crowd. Everything from young businesspeople to drunk college students to b-boys and girls. Crowded, so it's tough to find a table. Prepare to stand for a while or even the whole night. That's not a problem because the DJ keeps spinning great music non stop. Fun for all

Tonic Nightclub - February 21, 2006
2 out of 2 people found this review helpful. this place is crap. mean bouncers, crappy service, crappy music and women who don't speak english. plus tough guy wannabes everywhere. it is free on thursdays tho (the night i last went) so that's a plus and the drink prices aren't too bad. still, there are probably better options out there.

Republik Nightclub - February 21, 2006
3 out of 3 people found this review helpful. ok, i'm not much of a rock and roll kinda guy. but the rock side of the club was wayyyy better then the small, overly crowded, male infested hip hop side.

lots of pushy people too. and the cigarettes stunk up the air nicely. there was a lineup to get in, a lineup for coat check, and a lineup for getting your coat when leaving. a total of about an hour of waiting in line. be warned. if you time ur entrances/exits accordingly, you can avoid the lines altogether (or so i'm told).

the redemption of this club is definitely the music and hotties in the rock room.

I recommend this place.
