This Yorkville spa is a wonderful place to relax, which specializes in color therapy and specialized services. The medium-size facility is clean and spacious with numerous service rooms, offering comfortable men and women-only lounges, a tea room with complimentary tea, and a lunch menu; saunas in the change rooms, and a friendly and professional staff. The facility also features a full service hair salon on site. I went for couples' side-by-side massage, a special package that includes champagne and truffle chocolates for two, plus use of the special in-room color therapy shower. It was very relaxing and we had a great time. Change rooms include personal lockers, and they give you a very comfy robe, towel and slippers to use within the facilities. There's also a shower, and a vanity which has face cream, body lotion, deodorant, and hairspray for your use, along with hair brushes and a hair blow dryer. Prices are typical for spas in the Yorkville area, but not ridiculous, as with some spas like the Stillwater down the street. See their website for more details. I recommend this place. This nice, clean new nail spa is a great place to go for a $35 manicure/pedicure. While the service is a bit brusque, the ladies here are very thoughtful and take good care of your hands and arms, feet and legs. The pedicure massage chairs all works, are well-kept, and face a widescreen TV playing MuchMusic. Service was fast, and my mani/pedicure was finished within an hour.

Remember that Italian/French/Chinese restaurant on Seinfeld? Well, that's what Everest seems to be. Their menu is perfect for the group of diners who just can't decide between Tibetan, pizza, Thai, or "other". While not the best food I've ever had, the location is prime, right across from the Chum City building, and it sports a narrow patio (not great for large parties.) The service is fast and friendly, and the atmosphere is reminiscent of a zen-lounge/modern noodle house cum fancy restaurant. I had the Tibetan Momos--glorified beef and spinach dumplings lightly pan-fried and served with a side salad and pickled carrots that weren't really pickled. A good effort, but not terribly authentic. Prices were a little high for what you got: in the $9 to $15 range. But, really, you're paying for a great spot to people watch and enjoy drinks. This 24-hour supermarket on Dupont west of Christie is a great place to shop, especially if you need to get groceries at weird hours of the day. Their signature brand of no-name "Compliments" products are comparable, budget-friendly alternatives to like brand-name products, spanning across the aisles from fresh produce to household goods. The building is fully wheelchair accessible, and sports a good parking lot. Services include a full-service deli, fish market and butcher, and a florist's area. There's also a wine store en suite (though they only sell a limited selection of Canadian wines). One of the best features of the store: recipe cards in the fresh produce sections that recommend meals you can try. Something new and different. That way, if you ever ask yourself, "Hmm, smelt. How do I cook smelt?" all you have to do is pick up a recipe card. I recommend this place. Was this review helpful? Yes | No | Report as Spam |

This grill serves a melange of North American cuisine, including steaks, burgers, pasta, fish, and so forth. Entree prices range around $17 to $25, and most of the meals include their all-you-can eat salad buffet - their star feature that makes the trip uptown worthwhile. The Salad Market includes dozens of choices, from a number of quality fresh-baked breads, soups, roasted vegetables, bean and pasta salads, fruit, and other gourmet fare you're more likely to find at a high-end grocer's takeout stand. You can get just the salad bar for $15, though I recommend an entree anyhow. They also have daily specials, including their Saturday prime rib special which includes a potato side and the salad buffet for $20. Sierra Grill also serves what appears to be a good selection on their brunch menu. It's a very busy restaurant, and not the best place to bring a date. They also don't take reservations after 6:30 pm. I would have given this place a 5-star review except that our party of 15 had a reservation and the hostess was harassing us and threatening to take our tables away after we'd sat down because some of our guests were late arriving. Their seating policy is not posted anywhere, and we were not informed of it over the phone. The resulting disagreement wholly unsettled my stomach and soured the entire experience for me. If not for the fabulous salad bar, I would call this place a glorified Ponderosa or a mediocre The Keg, and recommend you go to Whole Foods Market for takeout gourmet salad instead. Fortunately, the rest of their staff was helpful and friendly, and the food was satisfying. A good place to take a party of maybe no more than 6, if you don't mind the wait. I recommend this place. It's not your typical restaurant setup. It started out as a takeout counter and is expanding into a full-out gourmet restaurant, but don't be fooled by the renovations - business is still in full swing, though it'll feel like you're eating in a workman's tent or a mobile home until renos are done. Service is fast and friendly and the food is authentic, fresh, fast, cheap ($10 range) and delicious.

Serving Tex-Mex and basic pub fare (wings and burgers), this is a nice, cozy place you can take the kids to before 9 pm, and enjoy with the guys and girls for a game any other time. Entrees go for about $7 to $10, though they do serve a basic burger for $5. I highly recommed the taco salad, served with a side of guacamole, sour cream, and salsa ($10).

While the decor and presentation are beautiful, Ginger Blossom is really just a very pretty face put on mediocre but nominally authentic Chinese cuisine. If you haven't been exposed to Chinese food beyond Manchu Wok and want something a little more authentic without straying from the comforts of North American cleanliness and aesthetic standards, this is the place to go. Try the tofu and broccoli in black bean sauce.

I highly recommend it if you need a stimulating environment to get your work done in.

This Italian cafe, bar and restaurant is a wonderful place to sit and have a latte and biscotti. They've got an awesome menu with authentic Italian dishes, including a fabulous bruschetta with cheese for $7. Overall, the prices are very good. The place is spacious, but warm and cozy at the same time, and bustling with activity and noise. The tables and chairs aren't very comfy, but the casual, friendly atmosphere makes up for that. It's set up kind of like a cafeteria, but they've got full table service. Parking is also available. Great breakfast and dessert menus, too.

While I've not been a big fan of the downtown restaurant, this sit-down location on the west end is very clean and comfortable with a casual to business-class atmosphere. The food is pretty mild, a good beginner's guide to Thai with just enough authenticity to pass for real Thai cuisine. Not nearly spicy enough, though. This location is also wheelchair accessible.

While the food is excellent, except for the pad thai which is saucy and ketchupy against the "authentic" style of pad thai noodles, the restaurant itself is in need of some cleanup and renovation. Still, a nice place to go for a casual date, and for very reasonable prices (about $10 per entree).

This women-only spa specializes in water treatment and body therapy. They have three pools, including a perfect-temperature hot salt pool, a green tea pool, and a cold dip pool, plus an infrared sauna and a steam room. Their bathing and vanity facilities are excellent, offering their own brand of citrus lotions, body wash and shampoo and conditioner. The facilities offer massage therapy and an excellent full and thorough body scrub that's apparently to die for. Prices are pretty high (in the $200 range), but tips are included in the fees so you don't have to factor that into your bill. A note to prudes: it's a bathing suit or birthday suit optional kind of place, so be prepared to face a lot of naked flesh.

This long-standing Italian bistro/bar serves some of the yummiest freshly made pasta I've ever had. With daily specials, and a menu that includes a good selection of gourmet pizzas, you're sure to find something tasty to savour with a glass of wine on their cozy front patio. The only drawback was that the food took a while on the busy Friday night we went, but it's still a nice place to go for an intimate affair or quiet celebration. I recommend the butternut squash ravioli - it's their specialty.

This is probably the most frequented, if not the best, computer store on the College Street strip. This small chain usually has very good deals on computer software, hardware, and peripherals. This particular location (recently moved from the corner of Augusta and College) is much more spacious, but still manages to be packed with customers. While their staff is knowledgeable, they're not always friendly or very good at customer service. But if you know what you're looking for, it's a great place to go.

This family-friendly restaurant located on the fourth floor of the Eaton Centre is a popular spot for large groups and small gatherings alike. They have a large menu of mainly North American cuisine, including sandwiches, pastas and entrees. I highly recommend their salads. The portions are enormous. The service can be a little slow on busy nights, so if you have a show to get to, just mention it to your waiter and they'll put a rush on your food.

This around-the-corner greasy spoon/burger joint is a little scary at first, but the beer is decently priced and the food is just like mom's. They have a hearty all-day breakfast special for $4.95 that includes eggs, toast, hash browns, and bacon that's pretty good. The staff is friendly and the patio is spacious, though the surroundings and clientele leave a little to be desired. Still, nice place to go if you're a poor student.

This pub-cum-sports-bar is a favourite among the student crowd, with cheap food and beer in a dingy but well-kept setting. They have half-price specials from Monday to Thursdays, including half-price Mexicana Thursdays, where you can get pretty good nachos or quesidillas at half off. The staff here are really friendly, and the food isn't too bad. It's an especially good place to go if you want to catch a game. Just don't expect gourmet dining.

Videoself is a relatively new concept in DVD rentals: you get a membership card with a set amount of cash on it, then go online or into the store to reserve a video. Go to the location, insert your card, and the video you've reserved pops out. While fast and efficient, the current selection at this location includes only the most recent releases, as well as the most famous classics, so no real specialization in genres. Still, it's an excellent and cheap way to rent DVDs for, say, a party. Plus, it's much cheaper if you return the DVDs within six hours of renting it.

This is a great place to take out-of-towners. The basic concept of all Marche/Richtree Marketplaces is a high-class cafeteria-style indoor "marketplace" where you can pick up meals from stalls that each sell something different. You can have anything from sushi to seafood to steak, roast chicken, thai stir fry, desserts, and more. I recommend the rosti fried potatoes. This location in the BCE place is beautiful and has lots of seating, though you might end up waiting for a seat for a while - they have limits to the traffic on the floor, I think. This location also provides free parking within the BCE place - just get it validated at the cash register.

This outlet store in North York is a bit of a journey for anyone, but is worth the trip in my opinion. The shop features only women's shoes and accessories, some of them from last year's collection, but many of which will never go out of style. They have lots of great basic shoes and sandals as well, for everyday wear. Shoe prices range around $50 and under, and they frequently have special "buy one get the second at half off" specials, or 50% to 75% off deals. The purses remain in the $75 range, but that's a steal when they originally cost three times as much. And yes, this store has its own parking lot. Just don't go at lunch on the weekdays - it's packed.

It's nowhere near as large as the Eaton Centre or Yorkdale, but this little plaza centre houses a 24-hour Dominion's, and Indigo bookstore, a Pickle Barrel, the SilverCity theatres, and a Toys R Us. Yonge Eglinton Centre also has a few good chain stores including Le Chateau, Cotton Ginny, Reitmans, Smart Set, and a small Jacob outlet store that is great for finding deals in. It's a pretty clean and safe mall, but it's a little maze-like, making it hard to find some of the more out-of-the-way shops.

I love this store. If you have designs to make your apartment or house the hippest, funkiest bachelor pad or trendy cool hang-out for you and your friends, this is the place to go and get stuff to deck it out. Not only are they fully loaded with contemporary designer furniture (think Ikea meets Warhol) but they also have awesome retro gear that your parents probably had as teens. They have a great collection of globes and mobiles in the back, along with antlers and really neat stuff you can deck your walls with, and cool stuff that would make great gifts for just about anyone. Careful: it's really cramped in here, especially on the weekends. Don't bring the kids or the strollers.

This BMV location is much more cramped, but still houses an awesome selection of books and DVDs. I visit this shop anytime I'm in the area - there's always something I want to get here. Don't bring the baby stroller in here - it's pretty packed. Please note the upper floor is not accessible by wheelchair.

This is the first place I go to look for books. They have a phenomenal selection of publishers overstock, but not just crappy home decorating books - they've got gift sets and bestsellers and all kinds of cool stuff. Their used book selection is also very good, and the prices are quite low. Comic book fans and sci-fi/fantasy nerds will want to come here to see the graphic novels and comic books as well as their extensive used sci-fi section.

It's a small shop, but the selection is very good. You won't find shelves and shelves of Harlequin romances or mysteries - only great literature and other stuff worth reading, watching, or listening to. Note: they prefer paperbacks to hardcover books for trade-ins.

If you're a sci-fi or fanatasy junkie, or are just looking for something to tide you over until the next Harry Potter book comes out, this is the place to go. The staff here knows their books, and can easily recommend something you'll enjoy. They also have a great selection of used books, and regularly host author events.

It really is the world's biggest bookstore, or so I imagine. This store has an awesome selection of just about everything, since they can afford to stock their shelves with more than just the bestsellers. Their science fiction and fantasy section is particularly good. The shop also has a CD and DVD section which has some hard to find items, though you'll probably pay a bit more here than at HMV or Sam the Record Man.
